Barbara Grasseschi - Puma Springs Vineyards
The cost of homes in Sonoma County? The fifth highest in the State. So how did Habitat for Humanity get a prime lot on University Avenue in Healdsburg? She began by establishing a relationship with the Healdsburg City Council. “Many people aren’t aware that cities own a lot of property. I saw the great need for affordable housing in Healdsburg, and wanted to do my part.” Barbara recalls attending every city council meeting to emphasize the importance of affordable housing and, as she remembers, “a lot of lunches, a lot of phone calls, and a lot of coffee.” Barbara’s labor of love paid off. In May, 2007, Habitat was able to purchase land with City of Healdsburg Redevelopment Funds and a personal donation from Barbara Gresseschi and her husband, Tony Crabb. Groundbreaking is scheduled for summer, 2008. So, is Barbara taking a break from Habitat? Hardly. In her words, “Now the focus needs to be on fundraising. But my story really goes to show how one person can make a difference. It’s possible in every community.” Copied from Press Democrat |
