What We Contribute to Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County:
PG&E provides the full cost of solar installations on each and every Habitat-built home in Northern and Central California, including the two in Sonoma County.

These solar panels will each generate nearly 300kWh of clean, renewable energy from sunlight each month, saving the families approximately $500 a year on energy costs. Each panel will also help avoid the release of more than 132,000 pounds of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere over the 30-year life of the system. In addition to the solar program, PG&E has been extremely generous to the Sonoma County Habitat affiliate with donations of surplus vehicles, donated volunteer hours from PG&E employees, and expedited response to the utiliy requirements to build all our Habitat homes.

In 2007, PG&E donated $1 million to HFHI to cover the installation costs of 65 solar arrays on Habitat-built homes. In 2008, PG&E will contribute another $1 million to fund solar on an additional 64 homes! Way to go PG&E!

PG&E Donates Truck for Build Site!

PG&E recently made a donation of a Ford truck for use on our build site. Special thanks to Ed Landman from the Occidental incorporation yard for his help making this happen. The build team has been in great need of a truck with a rack to pick up needed building supplies, and now has one! This is the second vehicle PG&E has donated to the Sonoma County Habitat affiliate. The other is in use to pick up donations at ReStore. HFHSC is indebted to them for their support of our organization, as donations such as this are critical to our success here in Sonoma County. Thank you PG&E!! In picture Ed Landman, Christine Dahl Silva and Jim Phillips.

The Reason We Contribute:
The first-of-its-kind partnership brings solar energy to families with limited incomes, furthering PG&E’s commitment to provide affordable, renewable energy in the communities it serves.

In addition to lowering energy bills for these families, the program seeks to promote energy literacy throughout underserved communities and increase enrollment in PG&E’s free energy assistance programs for low-income families. As a result, Habitat homeowners need to buy less power to meet their basic energy needs, which saves them money and protects the environment.

About Our Company:
In addition to our solar contribution, PG&E has supported Habitat for Humanity affiliates for more than 10 years with more than $635,000 charitable dollars for general operating support, home sponsorship and event sponsorship. PG&E employees have also embraced Habitat for Humanity, volunteering more than 3,500 hours a year.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation, is one of the largest combined natural gas and electric utilities in the United States. Based in San Francisco, with 20,000 employees, the company delivers some of the nation’s cleanest energy to 15 million people in northern and central California.
