Donating to HFHSC Family Services

Life is a daily challenge for our families who find themselves on the edge of poverty.  These families are only able to focus on getting through each day. Imagine having to choose between buying gas to get to work or buying food for your family.  Many of these families work two jobs and still have difficulty making ends meet.  A small expense like a flat tire or the cost of a prescription can quickly become a financial crisis.

As our families struggle to provide the basics, they find they cannot provide life-enhancing activities for their children such as art, music, dance, sports and leadership classes.  Yet we know from studies, that involvement in the arts, sports and other skills help children with their academic success, their human development; their behavior and self-discipline. These extra-curricular activities also help reduce school drop out rates and help to strengthen family bonds.  By providing children with growth opportunities, we can expand young minds and possibly alter future generations to come.

Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County’s mission is to provide decent affordable homes for low income families.  In addition, we are dedicated to improving the lives of our families by ensuring that their children thrive and grow.

If you would like to support our programs for youth, you may make a donation to our Habitat Family Services Program.  Please designate Family Services on your donation.

Habitat and Families

Together with the support of volunteers and our community, Habitat families become stable contributing homeowners. The Family Resource Committee was developed to help families break the cycle of poverty by providing educational opportunities and programs to assist families in their transition to home ownership, and a better life.

The Welcome Home Quilt Project

Welcome Home Quilt Project volunteers are helping to build a legacy of caring for Habitat children.  Each child moving into a Habitat home receives a custom made quilt, hand crafted with love and support of Habitat volunteers.

The WHQ project is self sustaining through donations, sales from boutique items and a quilt raffle.  The group welcomes donations of fabric, thread, sewing notions, and financial support.  Quilt raffle tickets may be purchased at the office for $1. each or 6 for $5.

The WHQ work day is the first Tuesday of every month with meetings held at the Quilted Angel in Petaluma.  The Quilted Angel store sponsers the WHQ Project by providing work space and sewing machines each month.

You do not have to be a quilter to participate in work days.  We understand non-quilters have something special to give us as well and we encourage you to join us.  Men interested in learning the intricate and detailed art of quilting are encouraged to join us too.  We also need volunteers to help sell tickets for our ambassador quilt raffle.

To purchase tickets or to find out how you can become involved in this worthy project, contact the Habitat office or call Darlene Mola at (707) 578-7707 Ext. 104.
