Faith Build

380 Johnson Street site
Sebastopol

The work of Habitat for Humanity is driven by the desire to give tangible expression to the love of God through the work of eliminating poverty housing. Habitat's mission and methods are predominantly derived from a few key theological concepts: the necessity of putting faith into action, the "economics of Jesus" and the "theology of the hammer."

Habitat has an open-door policy: All who desire to be a part of this work are welcome, regardless of religious preference or background. Habitat for Humanity has always had a policy of building with people in need regardless of race or religion, and we welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds.

Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County Awarded $25,000 Challenge Grant For Work With Faith Organizations

Did you know that these organizations in the West County came together to raise $25,000 for our next Youth/Family and Faith Build?  In addition, we received a matching $25,000 through an anonymous donor Open Door Challenge Grant via the HfH headquarters in Americus, Georgia.

Our thanks to these generous faith communities for raising $50,000 for our new home at 380 Johnson Street, Sebastopol.

Raising the money is the initial step, and once the build begins, our work with one another will continue.    It will be necessary to support the construction with volunteers and support the volunteers as they work.  The family chosen to buy this house will need the help of the community as they learn to be homeowners.  Our prayers for their safety, good health, and success in life will be etched into our daily prayers, so that our spiritual lives will be linked.

How Can You Participate?

We’d like more members from our community to get involved.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all of our faith communities in Sonoma County came together to help build this home?  Millard Fuller, the founder of Habitat of Humanity had a hope that 50% of all faith communities in the U.S. would become involved in eliminating substandard housing worldwide.  Some ways your community can get involved:

* Working on the build site in Sonoma County – click here to volunteer

* Hurricane Katrina Recovery Zones click here for information

* Habitat sponsored Global Village 1-2 week trips worldwide- click here for information

* Preparing lunch for build volunteers one day - Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday contact Volunteer Coordinator Isabelle Millot at: [ email ]

* Donating unused building materials and used appliances to our ReStore for sale to the public (click here for information about ReStore)

* Helping at fundraising events – like our Green Build Dog House contest, Golf Tournament, or other events (click here for information)

* Offering a devotional study to your community about Habitat’s faith roots such as Theology of the Hammer Study (click here=>) theology_of_the_hammer_study_guide.pdf which is based on HFH founder Millard Fuller’s book The Theology of the Hammer

* Having a special event or service to recognize the International Day of Prayer and Action for Human Habitatin Sept each year (click here for more information)
